MA Project

2022-2023

Freya Magenta is a Lancashire-based practising artist; her new project is experimenting with acrylic painting, embroidery and fabric manipulation, from investigating different ways of making and exploring how to visualise feminist ideology from her perspective—leading to research through epigenetics on inherited and intergenerational trauma related to the persecution of women through the semblance of witchcraft.
From this, Magenta visualises feminine power through works incorporating paint and embroidery to challenge the patriarchal structures of making. A concept she is currently exploring is in ways women were historically tortured and humiliated for being proclaimed "Witches" and how destructive mindsets are still embedded within our society today.
